Works and Housing Minister inaugurates Committee on Housing

WORKS AND HOUSING MINISTER INAUGURATES COMMITTEE ON HOUSING

The Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has inaugurated National Committee on Affordable Housing at the Ministry in Accra.

This follows Government’s 2019 Budget approval to establish a National Mortgage and Housing Finance Scheme to provide financing towards the residential housing across the country to promote social equity and stimulate economic growth.

Addressing the committee, the Minister said Government through the scheme, will facilitate access to cheaper mortgage loans for the public and private sectors and construction finance to real estate developers in the local currency.

According to him, the overall plan is to make Government the Principal Mortgage and Housing delivery institution in the country.

The Committee, which is being chaired by the Hon. Minister of Works and Housing, among other consideration. will set standards for house types for the market, identify and create land banks as well as help with land acquisition and ensure equitable distribution of affordable housing.

Hon. Atta Akyea urged the members to deliberate on the guidelines and policy interventions to ensure that the necessary qualities on housing are developed for implementation.
