The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing Abanga Abdulai (MP) has reiterated the government’s preparedness to commence the processes to set up a National Housing Authority (NHA) to serve as a regulator and plan, develop, and manage housing development in the country.
He said the Authority is also expected to complement the activities of the newly created National Housing and Mortgage Fund which is to stimulate the demand-side of the housing market to make housing accessible to the low-to-middle income earners.
Hon. Abanga was speaking at the launch of the Real Estate Revolution Experience organized by the Graphic Communications Group Limited in Accra.
Explaining the objective for the need to set up the NHA, the Deputy Minister said it is to decouple the planning, development, and management of housing projects of the Ministry from its core mandate of formulating, coordinating, and monitoring the implementation of policies.
This, he added, will streamline the transition from policy formulation, coordination, and monitoring to the successful implementation of a government-led housing programme.
On bridging the housing deficit, Hon Abanga said Government intends to embark on an affordable housing programme aimed at facilitating the construction of more housing units across the country over the next four years.
“The Ministry has already engaged key stakeholders within the sector to find ingenious ways of creating the needed platform to attract the private sector to participate in our affordable housing delivery agenda’’. He noted.
The Deputy Minister commended the organizers for creating the platform to offer the opportunity to share knowledge and experience on how we can collectively find innovative ways of creating access to housing for most Ghanaians and ultimately address our housing deficit currently bedeviling us as a country.
Narrating the idea behind the organization of the Real Estate Revolution Experience, the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group, Mr. Ato Afful, said the program seeks to provide innovative ways to realize the affordable housing dream.
He added that the platform is also expected to allow potential homeowners to choose from housing options that best suit their budget, needs, lifestyle, and life stage.
