Highlights of Hon. Minister’s Press Briefing

The Hon. Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye, took his turn to address the Press on the various achievements of the Ministry.

Below are highlights of his presentation:

DRAINAGE

  • Government commits GH₵450 million to increase country’s resilience to flooding
  • Reduction in flood occurrences in the country since 2019
  • Government to implement National Flood Control Programme across the 16 regions in Ghana
  • Indiscriminate dumping of refuse is affecting Government’s effort to mitigate flooding
  • The Ministry has received Cabinet approval for the establishment of the Ghana Hydrological Authority

COSTAL MANAGEMENT

  • Protection of the country’s coastline high on Government’s agenda
  • The Ministry is poised to expand the coastal protection programme to safeguard lives, livelihoods and properties
  • 10 Sea Defence projects currently onging across the country to protect 39.4 kilometres of coastline

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

  • Government committed to complete all existing and stalled housing projects
  • 2,803 Affordable Housing units at Borteyman, Asokore- Mampong and Kpone completed
  • State Housing Company Limited commenced works to complete 686 stalled affordable housing Units at Koforidua, Tamale and Wa.
  • Government is pursuing all available options for the completion of the stalled Saglemi Housing Project
  • The Ministry of Works and Housing is partnering the Ministry of Finance to scale up funding under the National Housing Mortgage Fund
  • The Ministry is taking steps to establish the Ghana Housing Authority to lead the supply side of the housing market
  • The Ghana Housing Authority will be in charge of developing, planning and managing housing development ad also complement the activities of the National Housing Mortgage Fund
  • 4,500 acres of land earmarked for affordable housing construction in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions under the National Housing Programme
  • Government poised to position Affordable Housing as a catalyst for national development
