GOVERNMENT WILL CREATE ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR DEVELOPERS- MINISTER
The Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has assured developers of government’s commitment to create enabling environment for a rapid development of infrastructure in the country.
He indicated that government recognises the role of the private sector as the engine of growth in the country’s development for which an enabling environment is key for the developers to function effectively.
The Minister was speaking at the launch of Forever Construction and Consultancy Limited Affordable Housing project and its 10th Anniversary Ceremony held in Accra.
Forever Construction and Consultancy Limited is a Ghanaian company established in 2011 for the construction of buildings, sale of land and consultancy services.
Honourable Atta Akyea, disclosed that government has acquired land banks across the country to increase access to litigation-free lands for private sector companies interested in building affordable housing for the good people of Ghana. He added that government will initiate tax incentives for the developers towards making the houses affordable.
The Minister therefore, called on players in the built environment, especially the housing industry, to embrace new technology in their operations in order to fit into the competition and also make housing affordable for the good people of Ghana.
He added that, the recent trends in housing construction technology has become a game changer and has raised the level of competition and therefore, nobody should be left behind if they want to remain in business.
Given the size of the pocket of the average Ghanaian, the Minister said government is considering establishing a mortgage regime using the Pension Fund to enable workers afford a house depending on their affordability so that workers can buy and own a house at retirement.
The Hon. Minister commended Forever Construction and Consultancy Limited (FCCL) for their initiative and said the project when completed will go a long way to reduce the housing deficit in the country.
On his part, the Head of Operations for FCCL, Mr. Joseph Acquah-Andoh, said the company has chosen the path to building Affordable Houses on mortgage or credit basis to encourage individuals who wish to own a house without any difficulty.
