The Deputy Minister for Works and Housing Hon. Abdulai Abanga joined his colleague Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon. Osei-Bonsu Amoah to commemorate the 2022 World Habitat Day in Accra.
The World Habitat Day, which is celebrated on the first Monday of October every year, was instituted by the United Nation (UN) in 1985 to reflect on the state of cities and towns and the basic right of all to adequate housing.
Speaking on this year’s thee “Mind the Gap, Leave No One and No Place Behind”, the Deputy Minister said government is putting in place the necessary institutional framework to enhance housing delivery and distribution in the country.
He said the Ministry is currently in the process of setting up a Housing Authority to regulate, plan, and implement housing programmes that meet the needs and financial aspirations of Ghanaians.
The Deputy Minister assured of the Ministry’s commitment to fully participate in the activities outlined for the urban month of October which ultimately seeks to achieve a sustainable human settlement in ensuring that “No One or No Place is Left Behind”.
A joint statement delivered by the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Hon. Osei-Bonsu Amoah, indicated that collaboration ministries and institutions would continue to formulate policies and coordinate the implementation of programmes and projects that will make cities and towns inclusive, safe resilient and livable.
