3 June Disaster Victims Remembered
In a speech read on behalf of His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by the Minister of Works and Housing, Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, consoled the victims and expressed government’s commitment to ensure that the victims received what is due them.
The Hon. Minister thanked God for the lives of the survivors and said though they have lost properties and investments, the most important thing is that they are alive.
He emphasised the Government’s determination to resolve the sanitation problem with regards to the construction of efficient drainage systems in order to avoid the repetition of the June 3 disaster.
He announced the construction of an underground sewerage system to absorb the large volumes of water during torrential rains and added that the World Bank had engaged Ghana in this regard to solve the drainage problem in the entire country.
Hon. Atta Akyea applauded Dredge Masters, a subsidiary of Zoomlion, for ensuring that the flood situation in the capital, Accra, is being resolved to prevent any flood disaster in the future.
He disclosed that all relevant ministries involved were working to ensure that the situation was resolved in flood-prone areas across the country.
